Ein beliebtes, auch gerne von den deutschen Medien unterschwellig kolportiertes Vorurteil ist es ja, dass die Amerikaner strunzdumm sind, und nicht einmal Ost- und Westdeutschland voneinander unterscheiden können (ganz so, als sei diese Fähigkeit eine, mit der jeder Erdenbürger ausgestattet sein muss, um unser Weiterleben zu sichern). Als vor ein paar Jahren auf einer Grafik von CNN einmal ‘Switzerland’ dort stand, wo eigentlich ‘Czech Republic’ hätte stehen sollen, gab es kein Halten mehr an Häme und Kopfschütteln in den Feuilletons und den Blogs, und bestimmt hat sich damals auch der ein oder andere deutscher Anchorman süffisant und leicht grinsend über den faux-pas der etwas naiven Brüder von überm Teich ausgelassen.

Yes, it’s extremely violent. Yes, it’s occassionally tasteless. Yes, it has some awkward control and checkpointing issues and a rather choppy frame rate. Yes, the graphics are a bit smudgy for a next-gen game and some of the missions are a chore. But who cares? Grand Theft Auto 4 is still the best sandbox game ever to grace a gaming console and an incredibly beautiful, witty, and engrossing experience.

I stumbled over this talented graphic designer while doing research on the professional whereabouts of an old friend of mine, who since has established an architecture firm in Barcelona, Spain. Monica Rivera and Emiliano Lopez recently built the concept hotel Aire de Bardenas in Navarra, and Lamosca did the signage system for it.
Turns out Lamosca has produced a lot of other interesting work. Strongly influenced by Swiss classic Josef Müller-Brockmann and Dutch Designers Mevis / van Deursen, it is quite a pleasure to look at. The Website is nice too.

Way back in the 90’s, when Flash was the shit and everybody and their brother was doing mousetrails there used to be this shy japanese guy called Yugo Nakamura who –– under the domain of yugop.com –– created conceptually clever and visually enticing Flash experiments, which would set standards for a whole generation of Web designers to come.
Die UN erkennt offiziell 192 Staaten auf diesem Planeten an (193, wenn man Vatikanstadt dazuzählt). Wenn irgend einer davon ein Jubiläum feiert, dann gibt es normalerweise Glückwünsche und salbungsvolle Worte von allen Seiten. Das ist selbst meist dann der Fall, wenn es sich bei den Mitgliedern dieser Liste in punkto Staatsform und Einhaltung der Menschenrechte um eher zwielichtige Vertreter der Gattung handelt.
Es gibt da allerdings ein Land, da macht man immer gerne mal eine Ausnahme. Dieses Land heisst Israel und ist gerade 60 Jahre alt geworden.
